Mission Beach

The tropical coastal village of Mission Beach is 2 ½ hours drive North of Townsville and 1 ½ hours drive south of Cairns. Situated on the edge of 14 kilometres of beautiful sunkissed beaches with explicit views of Dunk Island and Beddarra Island (being part of the family group of islands).

Its name originating from the Aboriginal Mission founded at South Mission Beach in the early 1900s. Bingil Bay, Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach and South Mission Beach all having there own unique entity for forming the perfect holiday.

The township is surrounded by National Parks, World Heritage Rainforest, Tropical Islands and is one of the closest points to the Great Barrier Reef (one of the Seven Wonders of the World).

This spectacular tropical destination is where your imagination runs free. Uninhabited islands surrounded by turquoise seas, verdant rainforests, crystal clear streams and magnificent waterfalls.

Mission Beach is labelled as part of the “Wet Tropics” with magnificent lush greens in the jungle rainforests. The Climate in Mission Beach is tropical, with a warm, wet monsoon season traditionally starting in December/January and finishing around April. Experience the excitement of magnificent thunder and lightening storms, torrential downpours only seen in the tropics, the wildlife, birdlife, frogs, experience the rainforest in its prime. One of the ideal times to visit Mission Beach, for a much needed relax and an experience you can only get in the Monsoonal Season. Marine stingers are prevalent in tropical waters generally from November to May, swim in the enclosures on the beaches at South Mission and Mission Beach or swim in the many cool freshwater streams. In May the famous “Big Blue Ulysses” and “Giant Green Birdwing” butterflies hatch, in preparation for the magnificent months of July to December, crisp clear days with perfect balmy temperatures and cool nights.

All this tropical uniqueness is located between two great international world heritage listed zones the Great Barrier Reef and The Wet Tropic Rainforest of Mission Beach.
